A large early American tin bell toy in beautiful paint. The elephant sits on a raised platform and moves to and fro as the toy is pulled which also causes the bell to ring. The toy is 11"h x 11" l. Hand-painted American tin toys were made from 1875 on-mostly by a group of manufacturers in central Connecticut. They are painted tin and have the same fundamental workmanship and artisan quality as weathervanes. They are unquestionably unique to America in terms of form and paint quality... $2500 |
